Without testing, the industry often specifies incompatible mortars for masonry pointing or repairs. The result is faster deterioration behind the repair and the need to entirely redo the original job. When the repairs eventually fail or are removed, they can result in far greater damage and loss of the original masonry.

Through testing and training Cathedral Stone is able to prevent masonry failures and the accelerated deterioration of original masonry. By identifying the physical properties of the masonry, Cathedral Stone can determine if a restoration project will require a custom formulation, or if a standard formulation will do. Other testing includes: bending tensile, expansion/contraction, permeability, e-modulus, and compression. Cathedral Stone is the only mortar manufacturer doing testing and custom manufacturing of this nature.
