Innovation

Innovating new products, testing processes, and application methods for masonry restoration and preservation materials has been part of Cathedral Stone®’s foundation since its start more than 25 years ago.

Early on, Cathedral Stone’s founder, Dennis Rude, identified Europe as a place to research restoration, centuries rich with restoring and preserving buildings. He knew that there, he would find a better method for repairing masonry—a method that would be safe for the environment, result in longer-term efficacy, higher cost savings, and fewer problems for building owners.

For the U.S. and Canada, where the true push for preservation began in 1976 and even now remains in its infancy, Cathedral Stone was in the vanguard of supplying the highest quality products for preserving North America’s masonry structures.

While in Europe, Cathedral Stone’s founder, Dennis Rude, discovered an unconventional approach to understanding why masonry failures occur and how to design all-natural, compatible mortars based on comprehensive tests of the substrate. Cathedral Stone became the first and only company to introduce this method, and correlating products to the U.S. and Canada.

To this day, no other company in the United States performs the level of masonry testing and evaluation equal to Cathedral Stone’s.

Recently, Cathedral Stone developed R-97 Water Repellent, which contains zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and has a breathability of 97 perms. For states like California and New York, where 100% VOC-free is a requirement, Cathedral Stone prevails. As the national trend toward eliminating VOCs continues, and environmentally safe building products are becoming a must, Cathedral Stone is leading the masonry industry’s curve.
